Holiday Clubs
Our holiday clubs provide chance for children from 5-11yrs to put on a top-quality show in four days with professional actors!
Taking part in a variety of fun activities, Drama, Movement, Music, Games and Crafts, the children will work together with the acclaimed Rhema Theatre Company to produce a theatrical performance of their very own, complete with script work, songs and movement, which can be shared with family and friends by the end of the week!
We can take up to 100 children from churched and un-churched backgrounds. We provide tutors but would require volunteer helpers from your church in order to comply with adult/child ratio requirements. It promises to be a really special experience for all involved and we can guarantee that you’ll be amazed at the children’s final performance!
"Everything that Rhema Theatre Company did was outstanding. They brought the bible alive to those who are not used to coming to church, and we are still reaping the fruit of their visit… If you are thinking mission, then I couldn't recommend Rhema Theatre Company more highly."
Revd Martyn Shea, St George’s, Stamford, Lincolnshire
"The children have had an absolutely fantastic time and the amount that has been achieved in just four days has been amazing. The church has been packed to overflowing with families who have come to watch the final performance... The bible stories have come wonderfully alive with drama, music, and dance... Rhema have been a delight and pleasure to work with, with their superb blend of professionalism and enthusiasm, and the clear love they have for their ministry".
Rod Doulton, All Saints Church, Macclesfield, Cheshire
"By Rhema taking the majority of the sessions it enables the church helpers
to concentrate on the children and build good relationships.
It's not even about the final performance but about building community which
the Rhema holiday clubs do so effectively.
Parents loved it, the children loved it, the church loved it. The highlight
of the year once again!"
James Gwyn-Thomas, Childrens worker, Holy Trinty Sunningdale
FAQ's
How long for?
We run holiday clubs from 2 days to a week. Generally we would suggest a 4 or 5 day holiday club culminating in a performance - but this can all be tailored to suit needs.
What will they be doing?
The day will consist of drama, actions, games, singing and craft with some line learning for those who wish. The aim is for the children to put on a 20-40 minute production of a bible story complete with songs, movement and script work for their family and friends by the end of the holiday club! They can even make their own backdrop and costume/ masks! The children will be split into a few different groups (depending on numbers), and be on rotation around music, drama and crafts. We would suggest 4 groups; 2 groups for drama, 1 for music and 1 for crafts.
Won’t it be too much like hard work for the children?
Some churches have been concerned (especially if they’ve run shorter and had mainly games at holiday clubs before) that getting children to learn a lot in the school holidays would be tiring for the children. We do work the children hard but it’s all such good fun. There are still lots of games in some sessions and the feeling of achievement by the end of the week is quite incredible for the children!
Which story will they work on?
The themes we’ve done before are Noah, Moses, Gideon, Creation, David and Goliath and the parables of Jesus. This summer we will be running a brand new holiday club based on miracles of Jesus.
What does the church need to provide?
• A space big enough for the children to perform in.
• Enough rooms to accommodate 4 groups.
• Volunteer helpers from your church to assist our leaders in keeping with the legal 1 adult to every 8 children. This will also help with toilet needs etc.
(All of our leaders have been CRB checked and had child protection training. It is the churches responsibility to have the relevant child protection procedures for their helpers.)
• To head up the craft sessions; helping the children to make simple masks/headgear and perhaps a collage for a backdrop to the performance.
• We require an accompanist to work with the music leader either full time or to come in as much as possible and to play for the performance.
• If the children are doing a full day then drinks/refreshments would need to be provided. (The children should be asked to bring packed lunches in advance).
